In the nearly two centuries since the fall of the Tsardom, Russia has become a powerful empire.  Though her emperors are still bestowed upon the title of "tsar", now the scope of their power stretches across the world.  Still flush from her successes in the Russo-Turkish War, Russia at the end of the 19th century is a tumult of social change: modernization of industry and military lead to greater wealth for the empire, yet also lead to upheaval as social revolutions strike the capital cities.  Even now, the storm-clouds gather for another cataclysmic  Revolution.  Meanwhile, neighbors grow bold and chafe at their borders, eyeing the vast tracts of land held by the Empress and Tsaritsa, Kristina May.

A weak start on foreign expansion forced Tsaritsa may into a defensive position against Turkey as early as 1902.  Though holding back the Turks for several years and managing an expansion into Rumania, the Empire lost Sevastopol to the Turks in 1904,  and St. Petersburg to the Germans in 1905.   Frustrated with the massive losses, uprisings rose throughout Poland, freezing production and sapping military strength.  In spring of 1906, the Tsaritsa was deposed by Revolutionaries, and replaced with an interim government.
